As mentioned in the last post, this farm and flower feed is moving over to Bluesky Social (@stumpmunkfarms.bsky.social). The store account @floradeschutes (@floradeschutes.bsky.social) will also move but will remain a bit more active little while longer while I learn the ins and out of the new platform. If you would like to continue to see and follow our journey - what's happening at the farm, what we're growing/planning, or just the random pup or sunset postings - it would be lovely to see you on Bluesky. You can also sign up for our newsletter on our website to stay informed.

BTW, Bluesky just released a beta version called Flashes to replace instagram, and it looks great!!!

As a business, this is not an easy decision as I so very much appreciate the community we've cultivated on the gram, but I do feel lighter having made this decision. As an everyday person who is overwhelmed and alarmed by the daily chaos, this was a simple step to take to protest an organization that is supporting and enabling said chaos. And who knows, things might change - I have hope!! I think hope is an intrinsic trait in all of us, and I hope to replicate our community of open hearts and minds on another platform - it's already happening💕. Best part for me is seeing more couples participating/sharing and turning these into date night activities. Received a reminder from our vet that today is Piper's birthday. It's a guesstimate since she's a rescue - her original guardian passed and we were her third. She loved Casey the moment she met him, but it took a bit for him to warm up to her. She deserves a square as she provides the spice on a daily basis. Happy 10th little girl - time sure flies!

The sun is out which is making me think about spring. Looking back to last spring and one of the first things to go in the ground are the ranunculus. I will be pre sprouting these soon and🤞for blooms in May.

Happy 2025! Hope everyone is having an amazing start to the new year. 2024 is in the books and looking forward to what this year will entail. I am reluctantly digging myself out of self hibernation and will most likely start in earnest next week, to be truthful. I want to thank everyone for helping us to continue to grow, not only for this little farm but for all of our farming friends who work alongside us to make @floradeschutes happen. Even if you don't make a purchase from us or have met, every like, follow, share and comment helps this (and every) small business. I also want to thank our super clients, collaborators, and vendors - for your trust, support, and friendship💚. Seeds are being sown and soon, the germ chamber will be a sea of green, ready for the new season. Happy growing everyone!

Hope the coming days won't be too fraught and safe travels if you are hitting the road. I'll be seeing you in the new year on this square as I am taking a social media break. Looking back to early fall with a spectacular sunset. So many things to be grateful for - our little pack, you, the community, this beautiful place we get to call home, and so much more. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I've been flying solo the last few days. This has made me realize that, since spring, I haven't cleaned the house once (seriously), only cooked a handful of times, done any loads of laundry (again, seriously), nor done much of pet maintenance. All of my energy had been focused on the flowers and growing the business. @ineptfarmer had been taking care of everything else. He is my biggest cheerleader and supporter, my world. I am so thankful for you @ineptfarmer, and I could not be on this adventure without you. I am also thankful for all of my friends and family who send their encouragement and support💕. It carries me through when I need it the most.

While solo, I've been "cooking up" some natural decoration items (see the last photo for before and after of a tangerine - love how these turned out!) for the holiday wreath-making classes happening first week of December:

Favorite activity from today? Visiting an Asian supermarket - and it really was super! I was assaulted in the best way by the scents of spices at entry. All the vegetable options were dizzying simply because it had been so long. My main goal for the visit was to stock up on persimmons since they are in season - they had 5-lb bags for $7 as I had hoped. Compare this to practically up to $4 EACH for a tiny persimmon in central Oregon 😭. I also visited their deli. One moment I loved here: a young man was purchasing papaya salad. At checkout, he was given a fork to try it before he left. Apparently this is where he gets his papaya salad regularly, and there was someone new making the salad so they allowed him to taste just to make sure it was to his liking. And it wasn't - not spicy enough so they fixed it for him. How lovely is that? A small moment of community taking care of each other. We could use more of that in the coming days and months.

Schedule has become more lax these days, but it feels like I went from the fresh flower season to wreath season in a blink. There are lots of classes scheduled for the first week of December where you will have the opportunity to make something unique with your own hands. I did a test run today and the scents just put me in the holiday mood. I will do an update on the schedule once all are live for tickets. I am also taking pre-orders on wreaths so please send me a DM until I can update our website for orders. Wishing you all well and sending good vibes out to the universe for the coming week🤞.

Thank you all for joining, and it continues to amaze me how flowers are able to connect us in so many ways. Although I used to get my feathers roughed up a bit (am I showing my age here?) when people commented about my "garden", now I love to call it a garden myself as it really is becoming one. It's been an incredible journey since we started in 2020 - above photo is showing @ineptfarmer laying down the first two of the silage tarps in Feb 2020 when I had just decided in December that I want to grow flowers😬. Second photo shows what grew in the beds prepped by those silage tarps in our first summer of growing. Needless to say, I was hooked! A lot has happened in these short years, and I look forward to what the next five years will bring. Thank you for being on this journey with us🧡

While everyone out there is digging up dahlias for winter storage, I am planting them 😂. I knew I had Sylvia Maarns but none bloomed. I swore I planted all of the stored dahlias...until couple of weeks ago when I saw the ghostly stems popping out of the box in the cellar. I know they won't keep for another winter - tubers are pretty desiccated but live stems are a good sign - so in the ground they go. 🤞they will pop up next summer. Thank goodness plants are resilient. While everyone out there is digging up dahlias for winter storage, I am planting them 😂. I knew I had Sylvia Maarns but none bloomed. I swore I planted all of the stored dahlias...until couple of weeks ago when I saw the ghostly stems popping out of the box in the cellar.
